Spruce Pine UMC   Costa Rica Mission 2007
Thursday

Another beautiful day in Paradise!! Another day of surprises and blessings! Temperatures here run between 70-82 degrees every day. The last 2 days we've had sunshine; since we're 12 degrees north of the equator (about 720 miles), when the sun does shine, it's blistering.
Today we had our first toucan sighting in the mango tree behind cabin #10, actually a whole flock of toucans. A really noisy bird. The male came and bit a mango fruit in half with his 10" beak, he eats, and then the females come and eat from the opened fruit.
Mid-afternoon the ladies of our team go back to the Church of God where we visited Tuesday night and took some of our donated goods. They were having a singing tonight and were killing, plucking, and cooking chicken for this big occasion.

Guy and Ken spend a lot of time on their knees...
...while our angelic pastors are flying high (not from
the varnish fumes) varnishing the soffits of cabin #12.

Another day of mixing concrete and pouring sidewalks.

The male toucan
It takes many hands and strong backs to
keep up with the electric cement mixer.

Getting close to the end. Our local helper Felipe is in
the foreground helping to finish the concrete.
Felipe is 17 years old, his father is pastor
at the Church of God. School is out for summer break here.
